Private Landowner Cost Share Funding

Press Release - April 4, 2007

Forest treatments designed to reduce the risk of destructive wildfire can be expensive.  The Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership now offers a program whereby eligible landowners can receive financial assistance.  These funds are made possible by two different grant programs:  University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Forest Health Program and State Fire Assistance Grants.  Since August of 2004, GFFP has assisted private landowners with treating 316 acres, costing $189,144.92, of which $77,799.08 was reimbursed to landowners (January 2007 figures).  You are eligible to apply for assistance if you own property anywhere within the Greater Flagstaff region - defined in this case as the Flagstaff Community Wildfire Protection Plan Boundary (see page 8 of the CWPP).

Informational Brochure & Application is currently being updated.  Check back soon for information or contact your local fire department.

Flagstaff Fire Department - Fuel Management Division

With the approach of fire season, its now time to perform the annual maintenance necessary to make your property Firewise.  While you're out working on your yard this spring remember to rake your pine needles, clear your roof and gutters of debris and move other flammable materials away from your home.  Performing these simple tasks can help protect your home and family from destructive wildfire.  Remember that when smoke is on the horizon, it may be too late to do this work.

For more information on what you can do to protect your property visit Flagstaff Fire Department’s Fuel Management Division website at www.flagstaff.az.gov/fuelmanagement.
